Our volunteers serve Gilchrist Hospice Care in a variety of capacities. Some work directly with patients, while others assist with administrative duties or in follow up with bereaved clients.

Here are some of the ways that Gilchrist Hospice Care volunteers make a difference:

An end-of-life doula volunteer is a specially trained individual who serves as a companion to the actively dying offering a calming and supportive presence to help reduce the anxiety, and acts as an advocate, meaning they are able to alert family and staff to immediate patient needs or changes.  The volunteer doula possesses a nurturing character and is trained on the process of death and dying.  Please ask your nurse or social worker to request a doula or for more information regarding the program.
