Training, Time and Other Requirements
Through lectures and discussions, Hospice staff work to help volunteers become knowledgeable about our guiding philosophy of hospice care. Classes expose volunteers to the many physical and emotional challenges confronting the terminally ill and their families.
To ensure program continuity and quality, Gilchrist Hospice Care asks that volunteers make a commitment to serve from two to four hours a week for a minimum of one year. Volunteers can choose to work during daytime, evenings or weekends.
Gilchrist Hospice Care seeks volunteers who are caring, sensitive and mature. Our volunteers must be able to enter a home without judging or needing to impose their own beliefs. In additional, they should be flexible and unafraid of spending time with patients experiencing the physical and emotional effects of a debilitating illness.
